The Yamaha YZF-R3 will launch in the Indian market on August 11, and will be assembled in India with CKD kits manufactured and shipped by PT. YIMM (Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing).
To keep prices competitive, the Yamaha R3 will have a certain level of component localization, as evidenced by the locally-sourced MRF tyres.
A spyshot of what is believed to be the CKD-spec Yamaha R3 has surfaced online, revealing the small changes made. Firstly, it sports a saree guard – a passive safety feature if the pillion is donning a saree. But it looks rather odd when it’s fitted to a sportsbike that has been styled dynamically.

The 321 cc Yamaha R3 weighs 169 kg (wet weight) and is equipped with a 298 mm disc at the front and a 220 mm disc for the rear. However, reports suggest that ABS will be offered as optional equipment. As for the suspension, it features the standard telescopic forks up front and a mono shock setup at the back.
The Yamaha R3 will enter into a competitive segment that comprises of established rivals like the KTM RC390 and Kawasaki Ninja 300. Prices are expected hover around the INR 3 Lakh mark (ex-showroom).
