Here are five new things we know about the Royal Enfield Himalayan. The motorcycle will be launched next month and its delivery will commence shortly after in the same month.
1. Segment
The Royal Enfield Himalayan follows the Mahindra Mojo as a purpose-built tourer in the sub-INR 2 lakh segment but by its raw appeal and off-road friendly hardware it claims its own specific segment as an adventure tourer. It can be deemed the most affordable adventure touring motorcycle in India.
2. Specifications
The Himalayan measures 2,190 mm in length, 840 mm in width, 1,360 mm in height, 1,465 mm in wheelbase, 220 mm in ground clearance, 800 mm in seat height, 182 kg in kerb weight and 15 litres in fuel tank capacity. The bike uses a 300 mm disc brake upfront, 240 mm disc brake at the rear, 90/90-21 front tyre and 120/90-17 rear tyre.
3. Performance
The all-new 411 cc air-cooled single-cylinder SOHC engine with an oil-cooler on the Himalayan produces 24.5 PS at 6,500 rpm and 32 Nm at 4,000-4,500 rpm. It is mated to a five-speed gearbox. Fuel is supplied to the engine via a carburettor that has a throttle position sensor.
4. Add-ons
The company will provide a variety of touring accessories that can be fitted/mounted on the Himalayan apart from the add-ons and apparels that are available at RE stores already. The equipment will include panniers, jerry cans, various guards and the like.
5. Competition
There is no direct competition to the Royal Enfield Himalayan. Its perceived rivals include the Mahindra Mojo and the Benelli TNT 25 which are better suited for the highway. Here is a technical specifications comparison between the Himalayan and the Mojo.
