The skid plate protects the exhaust downtube and the cat-con (the catalytic converter chamber) beneath the engine on the Suzuki Gixxer which is susceptible to damage when the motorcycle is ridden over high speed bumps or similar obstacles. The company has started providing this skid plate as an aftermarket fitment and it will not be offered as a standard fitment on a new Gixxer.
The Suzuki Gixxer competes with the Yamaha FZ-S and the Honda CB Hornet 160R.
The Suzuki Gixxer is powered by a 154.9 cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine with 2 valves and SOHC, that produces 14.8 PS of maximum power at 8,000 rpm and 14 Nm of peak torque at 6,000 rpm. The motor is mated to 5-speed gearbox.

The motorcycle is offered in four monotone colours – grey, blue, red and black, and in two dual-tone models – red/black and white/blue. The former is priced at INR 84,634 and the latter is priced at INR 85,729 (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
