The design of the 2018 Kawasaki Ninja 400 is inspired by its bigger brother, the Kawasaki Ninja H2. The twin headlamp is full LED for better illumination. Kawasaki has borrowed the analogue-digital combo cluster from the Ninja 650.

The 2018 Kawasaki Ninja 400 draws power from an all-new 399cc inline twin engine with liquid cooling and fuel injection. The powerplant generates 45 PS of power at 10,000 rpm and 38 Nm of torque at 8,000 rpm. The engine mates with a 6-speed transmission with assist and slipper clutch. The motorcycle is A2 licence compatible.

A 41 mm telescopic front fork; and a bottom-Link Uni-Trak, gas-charged rear monoshock with adjustable preload hold the high-tensile steel trellis frame. A 310 mm petal disc at the front with dual piston calliper; and a single 220 mm petal disc with single-piston calliper provide the necessary stopping power. The seat height stands at 785 mm with the standard seat. The 17-inch alloy wheels are shod with 110-section front and 150-section rear rubber.
